For our One School, One Book project this year we are reading Imagination According to Humphrey by Betty Birney. Humphrey is learning all using his imagination to become a better writer while getting to know the students of Room 26 better. Follow along with Humphrey's daily adventures as he tries to use his own imagination.
In observation of Read Across America Day (Dr. Seuss' Birthday) on March 3, Greendale Elementary will have Read Across America Spirit Week.
Monday: Cat in the Hat Day. Wear your own hat! Tuesday: Fox in Socks Day. Wear your crazy socks! Wednesday: Wacky Wednesday day. Wear mismatched clothes! Thursday: Oh, the Places You'll Go day. Come dressed like what you want to be when you grow up! Friday: The Lorax day. Wear a mustache! In addition, we will have special guest readers and special snacks to help us celebrate reading and our love of books! In observation of President’s Day, Mrs. Sprinkle (Librarian) and Mrs. Fugate (Guidance), coordinated lessons researching information about our presidents and discussing good character traits. The culminating activity for the lesson was all classes having the opportunity to make George Washington Cherry Pies from graham crackers, cherry pie filling and cool whip while discussing the story of George Washington and the cherry tree. The story was discussed from the viewpoint of displaying good character traits followed by the historical discussion of myth versus fact.
